Intel insid(er) quad-core usage model

by Abinyah Walker

Multi-core future

Intel's QuadCore Usage model predict the future of maintream computing workload requirements as a fulfilment user demands for greater performance from a lower powered, higher density, expanded functionality processor. Only multi-core processors will be able to delivery user demands and Intel has 15 multi-core related projects underway.

Intel multi-core computing has more than one execution cores within a single processor package. Recently Intel moved from a dual-core processor, names Core Duo and Core 2 Duo to a Core 2 quad-core processor. The benefits of four processing units in a single package is obvious, especially in a symetrical multi-processing system with two processor packages in a single system.
