New Haitian PM criticises aide, will Haiti be the next victim of western led aide imperialism?

Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive says the international community is not allowing his country to play a big enough role in its own reconstruction.

Mr Bellerive said donors and the international community were not working with Haitians to find solutions when channelling aid to those who need it. He said greater control of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) was needed.

"Let's be clear, I have nothing against NGOs - we need them. What I need is to have control over what they do in my country, where they do it and with whom they are doing it, and at what cost," he said.

This is a typical scenario in the NGO and Aide led reconstruction efforts of Western countries around the globe since the turn of the century.

What we need is better coordination and a global oversight of aide and NGO activities world wide by the International  community of aide recipients and donors.  We need to be able to measure what aide is being given and whether it is in the best interest of those receiving the aide. Otherwise, it will cause more damage than good, leading to aide dependence and imperialism by opportunistic individuals, corporations and NGOs alike.
