AMD Magny Cours 12-core processor released

AMD announced the launch of it 12 core Magny Course processor beginning in March 2010, which many system vendors offering servers with the new mighty core. With both HP offering the New! HP ProLiant DL165 G7 Server and Cray XT6 supercomputer with an AMD Opteron 6100 Series.

HP ProLiant DL Servers starting as low as $1449 can be configured with support for:
  • Up to two AMD Opteron™ 6000 series Eight and Twelve Core processors

    • Memory:
      • Up to 256GB, using 2x8GB Dual-Rank and 1x16GB Quad-Rank PC3-8500R-7 DDR3 Registered (RDIMM) memory per memory channel, operating at 800MHz in 24 slots. (See memory section for population rules)
      • Up to 192GB, using 8GB PC3-10600R or PC3-8500R DDR3 Registered (RDIMM) memory, operating at 800MHz when populated at 3 DIMMs per Channel in 24 slots.
      • Up to 64GB, using PC3-10600E DDR3 Unbuffered (UDIMM) memory, operating at 1066MHz when populated at 2 DIMMs per Channel in 16 slots.
Ultimately the most impressive understatement of the AMD Opteron processor Model 6174 (12-core 2.2GHz) is that is has higher SPECint®_rate2006 and SPECfp®_rate2006 performance (at a lower processor price) than servers using Intel Xeon processor Model X5680 (6-core 3.33GHz) (source). But what is impressive is the cost/value, since AMD 6174 12 core processor is 42% cheaper than a six core Intel Xeon X5570 4 core processor.

With impressive overclocking specifications of 3.0GHz
