If you are like my and are looking to buy an LCD HD television, you may be looking at a few manufacturers such as LG, Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer electronics or Samsung. I was more than a little confused when looking specifically at Sony BRAVIA series. I found Sony's television series confusing and I began looking for a way to clarify their product line into what features each series has and doesn't have. Since my price range is around $1,000 it didn't help that all three series cost between $800-1,200. I broke down the series below into specific features by series.
Sony Series by rank:
Model True 24P DMex 120Hz 10-bit Deep Color
S-Series Yes No No No No
V-Series Yes Yes No No No
W-Series Yes Yes Yes Yes No
Z-Series Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
Lexicon:
True 24P: Movies and many prime time TV programs are shot at 24 frames per second. Ideally your TV should also display video at similar frame rates. Televisions with True 24P, operating at 24 frames per second, reproduce scenes with less jerky images, especially when scenes pan. True 24P can be found on all Sony series S,V,W,Z and XBR HDTVs.
DMex: Is Sony's Digital Media Extender for optional modules.
120Hz: Mothinflow 120Hz technology more than doubled the number of frames displayed in real time through the use of special algorithms. Think of it as 120P, as 120 frames per second is an exact multiple of 24 frames per second that movies and prime time television are created, producing less jaggy edges.
10-bit and Deep Color: 10-bit color processing can create billions of colors for smoother more realistic pictures. Deep color is the ability for the screen to faithfully reproduce all the colors on screen that 10-bit processing provides.
