iPhone 3.0 tethered Fido / Rogers - by Abinyah Walker

Update June 8: iTunes 8.2 doesn’t allow you to load custom ipcc files. Use a previous iTunes version to update the carrier file.

I finally enabled Tethering on my iPhone 3.0. I can now be anywhere with my laptop and connect to the internet wherever cell phone reception is present. Now my iPhone is worth more than its weight in gold.

I re-posted the installation information below for those who are still trying to figure it out:

Working Rogers/Fido Tethering under 3.0 -- Carrier bundle attached

use shift/option+"check for update" in iTunes and select unzipped file (ipcc)

Thanks to Tensenki, you should better get you files from here:
Twitter / CapnCapacitor

if you want direct link to the file it's here:

no credits for me though on this go to the twitter link for credits or readme file

For those who have 6GB a month on Rogers/Fido this means a lot because 6GB is more bandwidth than most people would find the time to use up. If you are near a wifi hotspot most of the day like me, my present 300MB plan has been more than sufficient for my uses. I average about 80MB a month of downloads. Granted my average internet use on my iPhone is Google Reader and web pages on my way to and back from work with the occasional YouTube video thrown in there. Spending $80/month on phone and internet when I also have both at home seems excessive. Now with tethering I think I'm close to getting my money's worth.
